Introduction

The Particle Photon Wi-Fi development kit for Internet of Things has theallows the Core to communicate with the internet. The is the brain of your device. It run the programme and tell the prototye what to do. The microcontroller is similar to that whcih is present in Arduino UNO development board.

The microcontroller interacts with the ouside world using (I/O)pins. The pins are placed at the side of the microcontrller. These pins can be connected with sensors, buttons, lights, buzzers etc. There are also pins for serial/UART communication.

Desktop IDE (DEV)

Particle Dev is a desktop application that allows to work with local copies of codes. However, internet access is required as the files are pushed to the Particle Cloud for compilation and return a binary. For more details read docs.
